Tiswas - I hope you get the number next time.. They always follow it up but you also need a description for the times cabbies rent out their vehicles.

That's the one.
I've found that the best position to take in the road is next to the driver side window, ramming their heads into the steering wheel.
Had you considered cycle training?

Yeah, TfL seem to be pretty good. Although why is that so many buses have to overtake and then immediately pull in in front of you?
Passenger being a doozy and forgetting to press the request stop button earlier to let the driver know, that what I was told by one of the driver thought.
Best thing to do, ride further out more to prevent the bus from overtaking at all when nearing a bus stop.

Sounds like a bit of an excuse to me. I mean, I'd like to ask that driver what generally happens when buses reach a bus stop?

Great advice, yes. Think it's sometimes pretty scary to get out there in the lane but being assertive to be seen is the best plan. If you hug the kerb (which I used to do a lot more) you just get ignored.

Just had an email back from Roadsafe and as the coach actually 'hit' me they want me to report it to the police proper. Means one of those traffic incident forms again and then probably a letter a few months later saying they were not able to 'detect' anybody...maybe I'm cynical though.

Have a whinge if you do everything you can and then don't get taken seriously. However, there are lots of examples on the forum of people who've had a result by being tenacious against irresponsible or dangerous drivers. Best of luck if you do decide to go ahead.

When did indicators become optional? Drivers either don't indicate, or indicate the wrong way - so annoying. I like a bit of mystery when I'm out on my bike but it's a bit much...

I ride to school every day with about 400 other people, car accidents are not uncommon, but in this case, it's often the cyclists fault. What happens then?
-
• #1214
why don't you write a polite email to remind the company that their vehicles were being driven poorly and illegally?
keep it polite, straightforward, and less 'us vs. them', and they'll (hopefully) respond.

I already have
"I wonder what you have to say to this image of one of your drivers?
I lost a friend to a texting HGV driver this really disturbs me"This is the same company that employed a driver that killed Shivon Watson in Victoria park road 18 months ago
Thanks for the guidance Ed

if it's indeed the same company, please fire that to the LCC as soon as you can to let them know that the company is making little change to it's workforce to ensure a high safety standard.

Couldn't agree more about the indicator thing.
It's strange how as a cyclist when I'm driving (probably around once/twice a week) I give cyclists plenty of room. I've even been beeped at for holding back behind cyclists on bends, which as far as I'm concerned is just good driving practice.
What I never understand - maybe this a macho thing. Why do people overtake you, then 50 meters up the road they stop at a red light. Surely they can see the red light up ahead, why can't they just hold back? They aren't going to get there any faster.
Saying that I did have a BMW pull out on me this morning which really wound me up when he honked on the horn and shouted all the swear words under the sun at me, I simply called him a twat and shook my head, felt like I left the better man.
I'm not anti car by any means I just never understand why people have to get so wound up in there cars. You can't blame cyclists for making you late the same was as cyclists can't blame cars. If your in that much of a hurry leave earlier in the morning. No excuses, at least that way you probably wouldn't drive like such an idiot.
Sorry for the rather long post.

I've never understood the overtake approaching lights thing either. But it used to bother me way more. I'm sussing out that the majority of drivers can't see why they would want to be behind an apparently 'slower' and 'erratic' vehicle when they could pass it. This plays on their mind. I'd rather they picked a wide place and overtook me safely to chill themselves out than sat frustratedly behind me only to squeeze me later out of impatience - even if I will inevitably glide past them 100 yards up the road. Whatever gets us all home without a cardiac or worse in my opinion.

Agree on the indicator thing completely. What gauls me the most is where traffic calming measures are taken, and the road narrows with 50m to go - why is it imperative to squeeze a cytclist into the gutter to then have to slow so much to creep through a tiny gap. Do they not look in their rear view mirror and see previously cut up cyclist f-ing and jeffing? No of course they don't, their in their little tin box and singing to feckin Kylie!
I've had two tipper type vans do the same thing in the same place to me this week, the second time they nearly swiped an elderly lady from her very sedate pedal home. She was properly shaken. To be fair, not sure wether she was shaken by the van cutting her up or that someone actually stopped to see if she was okay?
On the flipside, I've had quite a few chuckles with cab drivers and other motorists on my way in/out from work when completely stupid drivers do completely stupid things. That to me feels like sharing the road, where I'm not just a cyclist and the driver is not just a driver, humans being human.
That was quite romantic, what am I thinking!!!
I'm not anti car at all, I'm anti Dullard behind the wheel though!

Note that from the photo you can't tell whether the lorry is parked or not.
Not doubting you Adrian; just pointing it out. -
