  • Fuck. Do you think my warranty is void?

  • do you have your cleats set to the extreme insides of your shoes? thus putting more leverage?

    all i can think of

  • Pretty much in the centre.

I've fired off an email to Time.

  • hahaha

  • No explanation as to why they bent from Time but they're sending me two replacement axels.

  • I had a search but couldn't find much - I stumbled upon these on ebay and was wondering if anyone had any experience: Steel Time Cleats

I know the auction is finished but I'm sure they'll come up again, I trawl ebay far too much.

These also look real pretty to me, might get em even though they might be impractical for the new bike. I think this is a forum member's ebay site anyway. Time Atac

  • i thought the cleats were made of brass so they wore out instead of the pedals. Steel cleats will surely cause wear at tear

  • exactly what I was going to say.
I'd much rather have the cleats wear out, they're cheaper to replace for one. It's not like the cleats wear out quickly either.

  • that's what I assumed too, but I was sort of hoping somebody who'd actually given them a go would be able to say otherwise. The last set of brass cleats I bought didn't last more than 2 months .. very little sole so they scraped along the floor. New shoes for christmas should sort that out though :)

I bought the single sided atac pedals anyway (5 quid more than a set of cleats alone, surely can't go wrong) so if the steel cleats come up again I'll buy a pair and thrash em out with the old aliums to see what damage they do. Might end up being a nice surprise if both wear well.

  • It's going to be my first time riding clipless. Are there any pedals in the Time ATAC series you guys would advise for my first time? Also if I buy them new, do they come with cleats?

  • just get the Aliums. And yes. Which makes buying second hand ATAC's nearly pointless as the cleats cost £15 new or £30 for the pedals with cleats.

  • The cheap ones (Alium), and yes they do. Cheap as chips, hard as nails and no unwanted unclipping. Swap the cleats over L to R for maximum win.

  • Ok, I will get some Aliums! Anyone know of any bike store in South London where I could get a pair? I don't mind ordering online, it's just I have a free weekend so a weekend ride seemed like the best time for me to get used to riding them.

Also, are they quite easy to get out of? I'm going to be commuting with them and sadly I can't help but compulsively stop at every red light.

  • very easy. Prop yourself up in your house and practice clipping in and out before venturing outside though. Pretty soon you won't even have to think about it.
When I first got them I had more trouble clipping in, as the booklet says to get the front in then put pressure on the back, but you actually have to get the front half in then push forward and down.

  • Thanks for the advice and hopefully I won't fall off! (and if I do, that it be in a safe place)

  • don't worry. You'll only have an unclip failure when your friends are watching.

  • Do as I did, and get stuck in you Aliums in front of a bus at the lights on Euston Road. Great place to fall over!

But yeah, ATACs are good. Quite clunky and firm.

  • You can get the superior Roc model in Evans for the same price as Aliums in Cyclesurgery. Evans can be a good shop. Not sure about smaller shops.

  • I wonder if Time has discontinued Aliums. Not that they are in short supply but I can't find anything about them on their website.

I found that one of the springs is loose on mine and although there's no noticable lack of bind, it does make a lot of racket. Should I be worried about potential failure?

I paid <£40 ea. for my two pairs of ATAC ROC from Amazon some time ago.

Out of stock with the distro...just checked. If they have it's a real shame!

  • Got some on Sunday and spent a while getting in and out of each pedal. Things are so much easier clip less! But did almost fall over this morning so just got to keep at it. Thanks for the advice guys.

  • The thing to watch out for is that they are difficult to disengage with your weight on them. If you lose your balance, your weight will push to thatr side, and you'll think your foot is stuck. Trick is to pull up, even if you're about to go down.

  • also the quicker you unclip the easier it is.
