  • looking for carbons rims or wheels,

recently purchase a hed3 front from ebay

but want to get another carbon clincher

    thanks

I can provide you with 60mm carbon tubular rims, pair of, 24H rear and 20H front.

    £160 the pair, BNIB.

  • Spam^ Reported.

    (bloody tempting though)

  • I am thinking of buying these wheels in a couple of month time
    http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/WPPX52CCL/planet_x_52mm_carbon_clincher_wheelset
Intended use is race only : TTs and Crits.
They are clinchers with alloy rims and carbon fairing which I guess prevents rims from cracking when punctured.
Is there an alternative to these in the same price range? Any reason why I should not be buying these?
    Any advice appreciated.

  • If you're only going to race on them then buy tubs.

The aluminium bit is to reduce the risk of failure from a combination of hot braking surface, and high PSI racing clinchers. Both stressing the bead seat area.

A problem already solved by this^

  • Hm.. was thinking about that. They have a lighter version of tubs http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/WPPXCAR70050NO/planet_x_pro_carbon_50_mm__wheelset_no_logo_
    for the same price.
    Anyone used these?
Also what are the prices for good tubular tyres?

  • Those Planet-X 50 wheels get a lot of praise from what I've read, although they are fairly heavy for carbon tubular wheels.

Decent tubs are around £40 each so not much more than a decent racing clincher.

  • That's reassuring Andy thanks. Not concerned about weight but just a little bit put off by the maintenance aspect of tubs.

  • Let's chat on Sunday.

  • I've had an eye on the same wheels but worry about max rider weight (I'm 90+kg). I know Easton's wheels have high max rider weight and madfiber have no maximum weight but I don't have $2k!

  • Just as a general FYI seeing as they just emailed me.

    Farsports:

    FSC38-TM tubular **wheelset **US$521/£338GBP pair http://www.farsports.cn/ViewProduct.aspx?id=707
    FSP50-C clincher rim only US$185/ £120GBP each http://www.farsports.cn/ViewProduct.aspx?id=576
FSL38-TM Light tubular rim only US$144/£93 each http://www.farsports.cn/ViewProduct.aspx?id=699

None of the prices include postage to the uk - that will be extra.

I am on a (relatively) heavy side too (80-85kg) and while doing some tinternet research came across a forum where planet-x replied to someone asking the same question but about deeper wheels (82/101). The response was : they are fine as long as you don't rock the bike side to side too much (climbing out of the saddle), so I am guessing 50mm will be fine. Worth double checking with planet-x I guess.
