I don't know enough about frame design to give you a properly informed answer, but it's my understanding that having it sloping the other way would make it possibly stiffer by reducing the size of the triangle, and also making it lighter by using less material. The shortest distance between two points is a straight line, etc.
But I do see (and partly agree) with your point about hater's hating.
