    see I was thinking that it was just the clamp area that had been squashed, and the main tube would still be 26.4 - looking at the various squashed bits of grease inside the tube it would appear that the previous post wasn't tightly fitted.

    Is it not better to have more contact with the post? Or would trying to open out the clamp area be a really stupid idea...
