Fuck all that clever stuff. I just got back from Mission Impossible at the IMAX. A big fat fuck-yeah from CYOA.
Decent turn from Renner - not astonishing (intrigued to see how he pulls off proper lead role in the latest Bourne picture because that's what Paramount are clearly building him towards as they're lacking someone to plug the gap), Pegg actually pretty good by his standards, Patton fairly forgettable. Cruise however I thought was utter boss material. The guy's 50 but looked 30. He is such a pro. Outstanding action sequences, genuinely very good comic timing - just perfect popcorn fodder. Best of all was the full IMAX experience which I've never been to before (went to see a couple of films there but they were only 35mm so a bit of a damp squib by comparison) - the Dubai stuff was astonishing (we were in the second row at the front).
However what was far and away the most memorable part of the evening was watching the prologue to Dark Knight Rises. I knew it was on ahead of MI:GP but I thought only for a limited time so it was a complete shock when it came on screen.
It was simply put, the most audacious action sequence I've ever seen in my life. Absolutely mesmerising. Cannot. Fucking. Wait.
