If you look more carefully, he has the entire body out from the bike, including his arse; that is not for performing, it allow the bike to stay more straight, changing the center gravity point; and this tells a lot... in terms of difference in cornering between new and old.
The cornering doesn't necessarily make the fastest time though.
The bikes of today are faster in every of the three parts of the curve, entrance, corner speed and exit. And I deduct also more safe.
