How do Loakes compare to other English made shoes? I've heard differing things.
I can't really compare because I've never owned any other nice shoes. What I can say is that they are perfectly finished, become more beautiful with wear and make you want to look after them. My leather soled ones wore through more quickly than I would have expected but I think unless you drive to your desk job or have them for dress shoes then leather soles aren't completely fit for purpose.
They are entry level as far as price is concerned but the next level is close to double the price and I can't see myself dropping that kind of coin on shoes even if I had the means. These shoes are made with pride and, with some maintenance, will last for many years. Plus IMO the designs are classic, not deliberately trendy like Grensons so that adds to longevity.
