Any one have any experience of the latest Wind Jacket. Looking to take advantage whilst the ALPDQUIZ21 code is still working and deciding between the wind jacket and the rain jacket is proving tricky.
Is the wind Jacket waterproof enough for lightish rain?

I find that they come up small in the waist and fine in the thigh but somehow manage not to look baggy (I have large thighs). Standard trousers - no experience of softshell ones

I's say small/snug. I'm a 30 mostly but would take 32 Rapha..
-
• #6986
Small. Go up one size
-
• #6987
^ on the snug side I'd say. My standard fit jeans are 34". The Rapha 36" is OK for me, just.
-
• #6988
I'm small 32" (or 31"+ lunch) and wear 32" trousers and jeans which are always a tiny bit loose.
I wear 32" in Rapha (except the touring shorts which were a little too avant garde in thast size) and there's no room for expansion.

/\ Agree, I ordered the 32" 3/4 shorts (which is my size in everything with a bit to spare) and I couldn't get the bugger's past my thighs. Definitely go up a size.

I couldn't decide between the rain or the wind jacket but went with the wind jacket in the end. It packs down incredibly small but can't comment on it's waterproofness yet (Rapha describe it as water resistant). I've found it to be perfect with a jersey underneath.

^ I prefer the wind jacket, mainly because of the cut but also because I figured it's more breathable. It is water resistant to an extent - when it's new, water bobbles up on the surface - but it needs Nikwax-ing after pretty much every wash to maintain that.

Pity that 21% code only applies to half the gear. I used the 11% one on a bomber jacket instead - no nazi armband and minimal embroidered branding that could be removed with a seam cutter.

Trousers come up smaller than shorts by some way
Fixed shorts are an inch or two more spacious than fixed trousers.Mind you white shirts seem smaller than black ones too, even in the same style.

@ TJL
I bought a wind jacket last year and was rather smug for the first few showers I got caught in as it held them off; in my mind, it was just a wind jacket so this feature was a bonus! It then was no longer shower proof but it still fulfils my primary requirement of it.
I thought that AndyP said his was no longer waterproof when I saw him at Muddy Hell, but don't quote me on that.
I think Regal has hit the nail on the head there. Mine goes in with all the normal laundry so gest fabric conditioned which, I think, most water resistant/ proof things aren't supposed to be exposed to.

I just have. :-)
Mine isn't water resistant any more, but I have nikwax so may reproof it and see how that helps. It's still a very versatile jacket, which I use a lot.

Cheers for all the info. Ordered one of the blue wind jackets (couldn't bring myself to face people in the pink one) so will test it on the weekend. Will grab myself some nikewax for future waterproofing.

do any of you have any fixed tee's in a medium that you dont wear, and would consider selling?
I'm living in mine at work at the moment, and they fit well enough to throw a shirt over the top when needed.
Do get in touch. Cheers! -

tempted by a pair of 3/4 shorts for £60 (£56 with 10% discount)
I'm 31" waist normally - anyone with a pair and experience of sizing?? - should i buy 30" or 32"??
thanks for your help..
Not quite but three months on a ship makes it easy to save. I expect not being married and not having kids helps too. Or a car. Or any other real expenditures apart from basic living costs for half the year only, cycling and beer. :)
