The Alpha rims are ideal for cyclocross use, they are** best used with normal tyres** such as NoTubes' Raven or the Maxxis Raze or Mud wrestler, or any other suitable tyre. We find that "tubeless ready" tyres like the Hutchinson bulldog or piranha often fit too tightly on the Alpha 340.

I think I'm going to leave this thread for a while and weigh up all the pros and cons. But provisionally, its the SupperLight hubs in an unknown colour, with the Pillar spokes, with A23, Alpha 340, or HED. C2's.
