Good, bad, ugly in ads, adverts, advertising

Guys, as young thrusters you shock me. In terms of advertising that is. Why would you want to be in certain types of media? It's about ideas not media platforms.

I think you've misinterpreted my mention of 'platform' I simply didn't want to typecast myself as say 'I only want to do TV adverts!' because that's unrealistic and as you point out, shrinking.

My point is that the kind of work I do at the moment doesn't allow for interesting and innovative ideas from us young thrusters as much as (I suspect) something open ended like advertising would.

At least the companies I work for don't seem to let it - it's current affairs type stuff. There are only so many ways you can present it and maintain credibility.

Besides digital and outdoor digital Adshels posters etc. etc. are exploding and have been for the past 5 years, traditional print and other traditional platforms are shrinking in comparison in terms of media spend. Don't get me wrong I'm not a media bod have just worked as a creative director for many years (last 6 Publicis and Ogilvy) so have good knowledge about these things.

I'm open to the idea of doing an MA, but I think my first stop is actually figuring out a bit more how the industry works, the various processes and types of people and roles involved.

I suspect that I'd like to carry on producing either at production companies hired by agencies, or if agencies actually have production departments (though I suspect not but that they outsource?) then working in one of those - but that confirms my point, I don't really know how these things happen. I just know that the problems I solve as a producer in my work at the moment aren't satisfying me and I think working on traditional adverts (even though they may be a shrinking medium) might.

At the risk of sounding like an old groomer I'm happy to pass on industry advice at some forum meet like souths drinks for example.
