  • Crank length does of course make a difference because of leverage, but not only are smaller cranks more aero (a lot of aero loss is from the drivetrain) more importantly they allow you to pedal through steeper corners as you can lean further with them, and as your feet create a smaller circle, they dont actually have to move quite as fast to enable you to travel at the same speed as bigger cranks would, so where leverage sounds faster at first, scientifically, smaller is faster.
