I've tried a bunch of stuff and never had any joy. I have problems with Reynaud's Syndrome so the cold really bothers me, especially with a year round, 15 mile 5am commute.
So far tried Specialized BG gloves, Radiant and Sub Zero, Gore Radiator and Cross II, Rapha town gloves and PS track gloves, all with and without various liners/undergloves.
After poking about in my LBS on Saturday and finding nothing I felt would offer an improvment, I left dissapointed, thinking I was just going to have to stump up the £££ for the Assos 3 glove system thing and hope it wouldn't be money down the pan. Wandered into Aldi and came across a pair of these:
Figured for £5.95, it'd be stupid not to try them.
Yesterday was the first time I've ridden into work since the start of October that I haven't arrived with corpsefinger. And it was hovering around freezing and lashing with torrential rain. They're warmer, much more comfortable, allow slightly more dexterity and seem just as well made as either Gore or Spesh's ultracold offerings. Can't really say how breathable they were because it was cold enough that my hands never got to the point of being hot/sweaty. The cuff thing also comes quite a way up the arm. Looks a little dorky, but it's perfect for someone with ape arms like me that usually rides with a couple of inches of bare skin between glove and jersey/jacket sleeve. Also felt better for having the yellow wrist for indicating.
YMMV, but for under £6, if you have a store nearby and are experimenting, they're worth a punt.
Edit: Only downside so far is they don't have any padding in the palm. But mine are XL and I reckon have enough space to fit a padded summer race style mitt under without problem. I take an X/XL in Spesh, 10 in Gore and L in Rapha leather for comparison.
