I used it three/four times a day when my jaw was broken on both sides, and wired together.
This meant that I could not utilise a toothbrush as I would have wished, hence the Corsodyl.
It's good stuff- but "intensive" use will effect a change in the colour of your teeth, I was advised.
For me that was worth it- it kept my teeth clean when I could not brush.
I would imagine that you will not be using it that heavily, so will be fine.
I don't know what it would do for your abscess, btw.
My teeth did not go brown.
