i ride 48/16, commuting to and from college and weekend rides, i thought it was hard at first, but now i'm used to it and REALLY like it, easy to keep a fast pace once you get going.
i don't think i could ride a smaller gear. it would annoy me.
EDIT. i'm keeping my road conversion, i love it really. i just need to get some new parts to make it better for what i use it for.
