  • Ooooooh. Tetchy. I think it's time for a nice nutmeg eggnog. Don't you? ;-)

  • Re: the sensation, one minor thing I can't figure out - how to put post codes into the contacts? At the moment the only option is numbers for US zip codes.

  • And the default search engine takes you to a results page where you can't jump to image results.

And the dictionary has "It's", but not "it's". And you can't add it.

Love it though. The screen looks so much better than the SII too.

  • Please help me out with this question:

What is the cheapest Android phone that supports Skype?

    Thanks

They all support skype, It's just wether you want the video calling or not.

  • nutmeg eggnog

I keep checking for system updates but still not seeing this OTA?

Oh yes, I forgot. The Sensation does actually have the better and sharper looking screen. This is true, though as some cranky man will tell you.......... Nobody really gives a fuck.

    Apparently.

  • Yup...

  • Sensation update to ICS will probably hit alot earlier than the SGS2 update.

  • So I'm avidly devouring all news of the Asus Transformer Prime, which sort of went out for pre-orders at a few places in the US, but nobody actually seems to have one yet except reviewers. My usual US source (bhphotovideo) haven't yet, and are emailing me when they do. So still December (possibly 19th) in the US and January over here. Although Clove (not heard of 'em) in the UK have put it up on pre-order, this seems a bit odd given nobody else has.

Meanwhile the price of the standard Transformer is all over the shop, as low as £250 in a one off offer back in November, currently c.£300+ (without keyboard). I'd consider it but only for the right price, and I'd rather get the Prime anyway, so I'm going to wait.

Interestingly there is going to be a bundle in the US with a controller (you can just plug in a range of controllers apparently):

Quad cores obviously being handy for gaming. With the keyboard too that's a handy productivity and gaming tablet, potentially...

  • I still want a galaxy note, but for 1/3d the price of asking.

  • Played with the transformer such a lovely device, the touchscreen and keyboard work really well together.

  • And the Prime is faster, thinner, lighter, shinier, has better battery life :)

They don't, which is why I'm asking, apart from it not working on two android phines that I have...it also requires Android 2.1 or higher and a minimum 600mhz processor speed, there are quite a few ohines that Skype has issues with too...it's not available on the market for quite a few models...though obviously you can still download an APK...they just block it on the market for phones they know it doesn't work / work well with.

I was hoping form you experts, yes, I have a "XXXX" skype works brilliantly, they're £XXX on PAYG...or something like that....

not particularly interested in video...just good voice over 3g and wifi with audio through phone speaker not system speaker...

    Thanks!

  • Well my HTC desire works fine on it.

  • I still want a galaxy note.... .

I've made up my mind,...... I have to have one of these!!!!!

  • Bear in mind that some networks will block (or severely degrade) Skype traffic over 3G, also.

Not an issue if you are using it over wi-fi, of course.

  • I've made up my mind,...... I have to have one of these!!!!!

I'm hoping that they'll fail to sell at their initial price, just like all the other Android tablets, and there will be a big sale after Christmas.

  • though as some cranky man will tell you.......... Nobody really gives a fuck.

Ha! Lucky I'm not a cranky old man then. I think it matters too - the SII's screen just looks dated and bit budget when compared to the Sensation (which looks polished and professional).

Anyway, moving on... 24 month contracts are so irrelevant in these days where a smartphone is obsolete within 6 months. I'm about a third of the way through a 24 month contract and I am aching to get a Galaxy Nexus. It looks incredible.

Also, I've heard rumours that the Sensation is actually far behind the SII in the race to get ICS. But that might just be home-brew mods...

  • I'll be sticking with my HTC Desire for quite some time. It surfs the web, lets me send emails and call/ text people. I'm happy. The big plus for me is that it isn't very big either, the S2 is freaking huge, way to big.

Until someone comes out with a smart phone that lets me do all that with a week long battery life I'll probably stick with the HTC Desire.

I will priomarily be using over wifi here in Germany...but when in UK on 3..they don't block or dergade skype (apparently) all though this might apply only to their special release of the skype android app?...

    so no recommendations then...?

Huawei Blaze from phones for you does skype and has two cameras for video calling. From phones for you. See my links further up. £59 or 49 as an upgrade to pay and go on voda, t-mobile and orange.

It has the latest android and is not the best but a great cheap phone.

    Has wifi too

I'd look on the Skype website and then cross reference the handsets that they confirm to work with the "usual suspects", ebuyer, Clove Technology etc.

I don't use Skype on a handset so I cannot give a personal recommendation I am afraid, but I would imagine that you would not go far wrong with a handset such as the original Desire- 1Ghz cpu, 512 RAM, nice screen, and they are pretty cheap now.

There's an alpha version of ICS for the SGSII now. It's mostly not working, but it's available ;)
