Yeah The Hobbit was good, I liked it, but the pages and pages of descriptions in the LOTR books just made it drag on so horribly. I gave up halfway through the second book I think, during one of the epic battles.
Then again I was only 12 at the time, maybe if I re-read them now I'd be able to enjoy them more.
