ah ok, well that was the key - the first thing i did when i fitted the gear cable was pass through the stop but it wasn't even close to fitting, now the combination of moving the wheel back 30mm ( a lot), running a cable sleeve through the eye and soldering the cable into the adjuster i should end up with a silent transmission that doesn't rub the frame or my heel but i won't really know till i do it.. wish me luck once i have the magic spare part from sjs
