  • How did this go?

I spent 5 hours out on the bike today. Its amazing how taxing it is to ride at slow speed for that long. Had to do a few site visits and a recce of Sutton Park for future Cycle events. A great day working...

That's almost exactly how long we were out for! Average 12.6mph with lots of stops made a very relaxing, social ride. I actually much prefer those kind of rides, but it's rare to get 5 people together on a weekday...

  • How far did we go dan?

  • In other news, my ski poles are here - they're incredibly long.

  • How far did we go dad?

    yeah?

  • I went 42 miles, Neil went half a mile longer, Matt went 4 miles less.

  • Actually, Neil must have done another 2 miles after forgetting his camera. Numpty miles.

  • Think how far it would have been if Dan had maintained his bike correctly ad didn't break down....

  • I must have done about 42 miles too then. Most ive ridden my fixed for ages. Cheers for leading Dan.

  • Good ride, defonately need to do it again sometime...

  • Myself and Pistaboy are heading out at 9am tomorrow for a 90min or so ride. You need to be at least as fast as me to come along though, as Pistaboy already has to set himself to cruise mode.

  • Come out and play. Earn your beer tokens.

  • 9am? ffs

  • Who wants to ride tomorrow evening? Meet at St. Philips Square at half 6?

  • Would love to but I've got a date!

  • There's a London thread about doing a fixed century - anyone fancy doing this? I've done a couple of centuries geared, but this seems like something else to do this year. Maybe get a train west about 100 miles then cycle back to Birmingham? Brecon is about 100 miles away, something like that. Fixed or singlespeed, in a month or two so we can get our legs back in shape first, pick a day we can all book off work, maybe get a group or ten or so?

  • I'd be up for it, but I'd be freewheelin past you hipsters on the downhills. Never done a century, mind.

Indeed, thought you might be up for it! thats why i put freewheel - you can carry the malt loaf.

  • I'm in, hopefully will have my fixed rust-bucket ride finished by then

  • I'm in.

  • this is 105 miles

if we want to come back from the north west....

  • Why not get the train to Bristol or somewhere south west of us, and utilise the likely tailwind? Nobody is going to like 100 miles of headwind.

  • All route ideas welcome! Is Bristol 100 miles away? I like the idea of going to wales but I'm not sure how good the train links are to there.

  • As the crow flies it's about 75, so maybe do a route via Oxford, great countryside out that way

  • I think Bath or Bristol would be a great idea. You are looking at a few miles shy of a century, but the route into birmingham can add the extra miles.
Bristol however, is a mainline rail station and the cost will reflect this. Advance tickets for a very early start would be advised, to allow multiple bikes to be taken.

  • Actually - Stu is onto a winner. Riding through the Cotswolds would be really nice. I'll see if i can dig out the route map that we rode for the Birmingham to Oxford Jennifer Trust Charity Ride last year.
I've ridden it fixed before - nice.
