    Thanks a lot.

  • Me and my mates bike got stolen on Sunday at approx 3pm.

My bike is a Grey Lemond Fillmore and specs are:

    • Black deep v's with quando style hubs
    • Vittoria Zaffiro white slicks
    • Bull horn handlebars with green wraps and gold goldfinger right front brake
    • Bontrager drive side crank arm with non matching left because the thread hole for pedal got mashed.
    • Thomson elite 25.4 stem.
    • Green "Mr JxC" vinyl stuck on left side of bike.
    • Pics are here.

My mates bike is a black non branded bike and specs are:

    • Blue no logo Deep V with joytec hubs.
    • Drop handlebars with blue wraps and golg goldfinger front brake
    • Neco headset
    • White "MinhTii" Vinyl stuck on left side of bike
    • Pics are here.

Both bikes have a mirrored vinyl stuck on the front of head tube and on the seat tube just below the welding of the top tube which says "FC".

If anyone has seen these bikes around please pm me or call on 07876713346.

Very sorry to hear about this. I live in Bermondsey and so will also keep my eyes peeled. Out of interest, where were they taken from?

Mine was nicked from my house a few weeks back (see earlier in this thread) and nothing has come up on ebay/gumtree that I have seen - so I am still looking out for some scumbag riding fixed gear with a very bemused expression.

  • Have these bikes been reported stolen to tjhe police?

  • Hey all, bike got nicked from London Fields last night. Quite distinctive Bianchi Frame, Orange rear wheel and purple/yellow handlebars. Had a 'Yeah!' sticker on the handlebars but they'll prob remove this

    Yeah they have.

  • Cool. I know the detective who deals with bike theft at Lewisham and she confirmed that it is ok to dial 999 if we see a stolen bike. If I see it, I will D lock it and then dial 999.

  • I'm not sure, you always get conflicting advice from police about this. There's also the new 101 number, which is meant to put you in touch with local police more directly, but I'm afraid I don't know very well how that works.

  • I've got it in writing from this particular detective via email. Thats my story and I'm sticking to it :D

I do agree that advise does vary but if I see somebody riding my bike, thats what I'm going to do.

  • I always thought 999 was for emergencies. Isn't that why the new numbers have been introduced.

If you do dial 999 the chances are that you'll reach someone in a control room who won't give a shit about your bike and think you're a twat for calling 999 about it, and subsequently do as little as possible about it(read:"nothing").

  • All I'm saying is that the explicit written instructions that I had from a detective at Lewisham police station is that it is perfectly acceptable to call 999 if a stolen bike is spotted. This was in response to my v-sprint being seen a day after it was stolen.

I didn't even ask if 999 was ok, she volunteered it as the correct response to such a situation.

Copied and pasted from the email:

    Hi,

No worries, thanks for that. Can you just ask people to dial999 if they see your bike being ridden? We can then look to arrest whoeveris riding it and get you to identify the bike down at the station if needbe. It would be great to catch up with this person and get your bike backto you.

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly, I'll keep in touch re theCCTV. I will also get an image of a bike similar to yours put onto ourbriefing so taht the uniformed officers can keep an eye out for it if it isthat rare. Thanks again for your help

  • Yes, a lot of officers say that. I don't know what the correct answer is, either. What I remember is that you should call 999 when you see a crime in progress. I'm sure that calling 999 can lead to a swift response in some cases, but I've also heard that as 999 is reportedly so swamped with calls, a call about a stolen bike might not receive priority attention in view of the competition, whereas 101 would get straight through to local police. Again, I'm not sure, as I've asked this question repeatedly through the years and have received different answers. I think we also need to give 101 a bit of time to bed in to see whether that approach works well.

Thanks a lot for that mate :)
