  • HoKe - what brake setup are you using on your Track Comp?

I created an account specifically to ask you that, I would have sent a pm but I need 3 posts and 24 hours as a member. Anyway, what type of lever and caliper brake are you using? I need to get a front brake set up for my Track Comp.

    Thanks.

  • Just thought I'd post this here as well as the stolen bikes thread.

This is my 2004 Fuji Track. It was stolen at Tooting Bec last night. Would be cool if fellow Fuji riders could keep their eyes open for it. It's pretty distinctive.

    Totally gutted.

Just thought I'd mention; I managed to recover my bike (many thanks to awesome people on the forum - check the stolen bikes thread for the full story!)

So if you see someone riding it, don't lamp them with a d-lock, because it will be me!

    Happy days!

  • Hooray! Thats a lovey bike, glad you got it back!

  • Also, is there actually any difference between the track classic and the feather apart from the feather having a quill stem and a fancy paint job?

  • The fork is different.

  • Is that is? The feather seems a lot more expensive for that, about another £100 as far as I can tell. I went for the classic myself. I've probably spent the £100 on various upgrades anyway.

  • I have had my fuji classic track for some months now and it turned out to be pretty cool for my first fixed gear bike. I solved my problems with the old bent spider, now that I am 'tired' of my drop bars I would like to change them.

I was thinking of cinelli lola, until now I have used normal brake levers mounted on the drop bars just close to the stem. With the cinelli lola I am not sure the brake levers would fit in the same way...and also, once I get the Lola I would like to try putting the levers on the bar ends.

So: you all know the fuji classic track, unfortunately I don't have photos of mine (I'll take one soon).

Anyway: I guess putting the levers on the bar ends would mean doing the brake cables again...the front cable will sure be too short for the new bars.

I need advice in this sense: what bars can you suggest (sorry I can't remember the name in english of the kind the Lola are...) besides the cinelli Lola, and what brake levers ?

    Thank you!

  • Personally, I like the Nitto RB-021, cause it has a "drop" and is not straight. There are a lot of similar bars.

  • thank you...I'll try to choose from the photos. Cinelli Lola are not easy to find...I find them only on ebay.it otherwise the price goes very high (I am Italian).

Anyway...I am very new to this kind of bars...besides the fact that I don't really know whether all the brake levers are compatible with all those bars (inner diameter plays a role?) or not....is there a tutorial on how to route the cable hose? I know that some bars have a hole for it and some haven't

  • U can buy yourself some bar-end brakes, if you're totally new to bullhorns, it will be smart to first purchase a bar --> check the inner diameter --> buy yourself some brakes. Bar-end brakecables always go through the handlebar. So if there aren't any holes, you will have to drill them. It is not that hard :)

I have bought some aero levers, which was a bit harder to route. But now they work.

    Good luck.

Ps. Sorry for my bad english, I'm dutch.

  • You could always check out the Deda, Charge and Profile offering, they're pretty good and well priced compared to the Cinelli Lora.

P.S. sorry for my bad English, I'm English.

hmm, on my nelson I have the cable going along the bar, not inside it. Depends on the levers I think.

Remember that going from drop bars to bullhorns you might want to get shorter stem.

  • Well, than it will depend on the levers :P, but when you're buying levers on internet; read the description :P.

Also the shorter stem is a good one, otherwise u maybe have a enoying driving position.

  • It sounds like you're unsure of the English terms/names. If you're in Italy I don't know if it matters...sorry if I'm teaching you to suck eggs, but:

The bars you want are "bullhorns".

Bullhorns usually take "aero levers" or "bar-end brakes". As nutsjesmoar said make sure you check the diameter of the inside of the bars. If your current brakes are "cross top" brakes, like these:

...then you will probably be able to use them on your new bars if they are the same clamp size. The only problem is that if you use bullhorns with a downwards curve then it is much better to have aero/bar-end levers.

If you are changing the bars, you need to make sure the clamp size of the stem and bars are the same. I think the fuji is 26mm. Personally I'd probably change the stem to an oversized 31.8mm, because you will probably want a shorter stem anyway.

You will need new brake cable if you change the levers. I would buy bars and levers that allow for internal cable routing.

This thread has some recommendations (as well as other shapes of bars): http://www.lfgss.com/thread16416.html

Profile Airwing Aero usually come recommended (and they're cheap). Also have a look at Syntace. I had the Profile's and liked them... altho in the end I realised I prefer drops.

    Hope that helps.

Don't do this on Aluminuim bars, it's an accident waiting to happen.

I'd advise against Cinelli Lola, as they're not drilled for internal brake cable routing (which you'll need for tt style brake levers). Much better is the Deda Crononero, comes in a range of styles and widths and is drilled for brake cables. Hopefully a bit easier for you to find too ?

  • Cinelli Pepper bars, but you'd need a bigger stem clamp. Goes well with the cinelli ant stem

  • i like these...

  • I feel the carbon fork tightened up the front clearances and made it handle alot better. more comfy ride too!

what colour should i paint it for next year?

  • Gloss black!

  • I'd go for a charcoal or very dark gun metal grey (assuming you're keeping most of the parts).

Stealthy, but will keep some contrast in the components.

  • And lose that inner glow?
    humming "Nuclear Infected".

  • anyone fitted full guards to a fuji track?

do sks race blades or crud road racers fit ok?

    thanks

  • yes

  • Thanks. Best out of the two?
