  • Incidentally, anyone know any decent cobblers that can re-sole some Trickers?

The fella I used for years has gone tits up :-(

  • Cheers, I'll have a go with the thinners first, if it's not going well I'll try to find somebody reputable to re-do it.

Fucking bloke was all "they're a lovely pair of boots those, I don't see many handmade english shoes in here any more, blah blah..."

Got them home and had a good look at them and thought I'm not surprised you cack-handed gonad.

  • Was he Polish?

  • buff?

  • Northamptonshire born and bred, worked in the shoe factories from the age of 15 then took over his dad's cobblers shop. Bloke can talk.

All the more surprising how shit he is really.

That's what he told you...he's probably from Romford and used to work in a bookies

The best cobbler in town is the Italian place in Brecknock Road. Opposite Bumblebee.

I took my Tricker's boots to Mayfair Cobblers in Mayfair (duh) to be re-healed after reading reviews saying they were shit hot. They were pretty good and are used to handling top quality handmade shoes. I said that I might need them resoled one day but would send them back to be done by Tricker's on Tricker's lasts. to which the bloke replied that he has a set of Tricker's lasts and that you don't resole shoes on the last anyway!

However, later that day I popped into the Tricker's shop on Jermyn Street to get some polish and laces and they said that they could have re-healed them instore for roughly the same money. I don't think they resole there but worth asking.

I need a whole new sole unit on my derby's. Thing is though they've already been re-soled by my old cobbler and Trickers don't touch them once someone else has had a go
Plust they cost £110, fuck that....they used to be £60 years ago

  • yup used them a lot, both for proper leather shoes and cheapo faux leather shoes with bloody paper soles(!) (bought for £140 to my girlfriend btw, with the promise that they're top quality. they were a decent brand too, can't remember which though), however 5th Av. sorted them out

    Islington latte/quiche botherers

  • Grenson Angus Brogues
I'm about to buy those (with a massive discount).
Anyone has them already? Good purchase?

been to the folk sale hey!... i have a few pairs of grenson and 2 of those. they are good value and relatively well made. Not really up to the standard of churches, trickers or lobb for longevity.

That said you cant be worrying about who is going to trad on your feet all the time....

  • Still don't have them unfortunatly, my discount is from matches and they are out of stock in my size :(

  • try fashionsource and one of the 20-25% codes there's plenty of online shops that do those shoes.

  • Ring the factory shops in Northampton. trickers/ churches have them and then try on the shoe on on bond st. You can get massive reductions for what they call a second with a slight scuff or split in the welt. its basically the same kind of defect you get when someone stands on them the first time you wear them!

that or bicester... horrible place but worth a trip for cheap shoes.

  • KG in Camden are pretty good. Had my Grensons done there and it was a proper job for a change. Only place I've found so far

You are welcome. My guess would have been that you are a Salvino man or hang out with the Rapha crowd at Earth in Kentish Town with Bumblebee being too hippy.
