What kind of battery? If it's http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Primary_cells, the Energizer Ultimate Lithium (Li/FeS2) range has excellent low temperature performance, down to -40F/-40C
A rechargeable battery in this application should be more or less self heating, so keep the light indoors and turn it on before you go out.
