  • I'd also like to give a shout to Micycle, they were so friendly, helpful, enthusiastic and inquisitive when I merely popped in for some air.
Another thing to mention is that Two Wheels Good Crouch End is still going strong, though trying to fight against the Evans round the corner. It is very expensive but they do give thorough service and some of the mechanics there are really super friendly. I went in with hubs and rims and begged to be shown how to build wheels and Alec lent me books, gave me double butted spokes for cheap spoke price and was generally really lovely about it. They are mostly a road bike and commuter shop but it's my local and I'm glad of it. The owner who spends his time between that branch and the Stoke Newington one is very helpful though he often seems brusque.
A shop for the 'not in London' section ought to be The Cycle Repair Shop in Cambridge, good service and great service if you go in friendly. Unreliable opening hours but good prices. Very flexible, while he obviously won't just lend all his tools out to strangers if you go in and plead 'my tools are back in London, could you have a look?' he'll often just fix little kinks for free.
Bike Ambulance (Cambridge again) are well known I believe already. They're definitely good for bike bling.
