And the Lords are having a debate about cyclists injuring peds on the pavements...

And isn't this in exactly the same place that someone died under the wheels of a skip wagon earlier this year...?
This is heartbreaking

One of the incidents was at the bottom of my road, I walked past the site on the way home. There was a broken bicycle at the end of Long Lane, at the Tower Bridge Rd junction, and some kind of container lorry, a four-wheeler, pulled up in front of the Sainsburys. I asked one of the many police at the scene what had happened and he confirmed it was an HGV/cyclist incident.
So sorry to hear of another avoidable death.

Just got my free ticket to attend the debate - really hope some rebellious back-bencher derails or diverts the debate to a legitimate and more pressing subject...

:(
Terrible news.
Tower Bridge and the Tower Bridge Road junction with Long Lane are two terrible choke points, given that everyone seems to race towards them from the previous stretches of open tarmac.
Condolences to family and friends.

I must have missed this accident by a matter of minutes. Its just so sad.
Careful riding home between London Bridge and Greenwich tonight everybody...because of the riders down and roadworks the roads are gridlocked and sadly some drivers are getting quite aggressive and dangerous as they get more frustrated.

Such a needless waste.

Very sad.
As others have mentioned I also commute over this bridge everyday and it's a horrible journey. Traffic is awful and at the start both ends vehicles try to treat it as if there are two lanes in each direction - simply not enough space. Crazy thing is, is that the pavement is enourmous so there is the potential to make it bicycle friendly. Or at least paint some markings.

I think others have said it earlier in the thread but for clarity, this accident did not happen on the bridge. Hazardous though it is.

Why can't central London be HGV free except by special license? Late night drops only for HGV's?
Unfortunately the reality is that if you actually tried to implement this, the entire construction industry would pretty much grind to a halt.
anyway, this is not the place for this discussion.

The area was blocked off around Long Lane, and was told it was a fatality by a TFL representative. Terrible news, yet another waste of a life.

This is so so sad! I had just reached this as it was being closed off. Just prior to reaching it, someone on a Willier had been knocked off at the tower bridge rd/jamaica rd junction, hope they are ok!

Her name was Ellie, she was my best mate's sister. We were with her a week ago today.
She was an amazing girl.
I'll be sure to pass on your condolences.
Cheers.

Somehow makes it seem all the more real now she has a name.
Wishing all Ellie's family and friends the strength to pull together and grieve as best they can.
edit: Thanks for letting us know Guern.

Awful news, just bloody terrible. Rest in peace unknown female cyclist - the 16th to be killed on our city's roads so far this year.
