NEVER newquay I hate that place
-
• #12634
I dont hate Newquay, there are some nice breaks around the area,
It just the stag/hens do crowds and the general seaside piss up of the area that kills it for me -
• #12635
why go to newquay when you could go to falmouth
-
• #12636
Avoid during June,July,August, then it's mostly fine. The coastline around there is stunning, pretty good riding too.
^Falmouth's alright, coast isn't a patch on North Cornwall though. -

Years of driving and on my way home a BMW pulls out of a hotel car park straight in my way, so glad I went to rescue a mate with the truck, otherwise the vanwould have copped it, here are the results-
BMW 0-1 truck
Have to say only had the odd little car park knock, this really makes you think afterwards. Both parties are ok, me and the woman although she got taken to hospital for a check over as she was 12 weeks pregnant.
Carl
Form another forum I'm on. If the woman managed not to see a large van what would it have taken for her to pause before pulling out. At least she took it on the chin for all the other mongs who pull out on people

Fuck, that could be a cyclist not a truck.

£500 damage to the van and £2k to the car. I'm surprised the damage didn't cost more for the car.
My thoughts were like yours.

No way is that £2k of damage to the car.
I wouldn't be surprised if the insurance company wrote it off.
It cost my insurance company £4k just to replace ONE panel in the back of my crappy Audi. -
• #12643
There's always the cost of the repair then the cost that the repair company tell the insurance though. Very rarely are they even closely related.

insurance write off and back on the road before the original owner has had time to buy a new one I'd say.
-
• #12645
It looks like a write off to me as well, because it's more than a dented bumper.
I know my Z3 is one - there's a dent and scratches on every panel and a full respray would be about £1600 cash in hand. It would be probably twice as much with all the VAT invoices.I'm wondering if mechanical_vandal undoes what mechanical_repairs does... :-)

I think MV bashes things with mallets, but that's polo for you...

New bumpers, lights, front panel, grille and bits. not that much to fix. She's lucky she caught his bumper, milliseconds later and she's have caught the bed on the bear of the van. Looked back to the original thread, he pulled out an A5 sized piece of plastic bumper from the bead of his tyre.

I just know that I've rear ended a car on a very small and light motorbike at about 5mph, I though about paying for the repair to the car myself rather than claim insurance as I was sure the damage would only be cosmetic - the only visible damage was a broken number plate, no deformation of the bumper or paint loss or anything - so I got the girl I hit to ask the repair company to phone me with a quote for the job, they came back to me with a 4 figure quote, they said the substructure of the bumper was smashed, boot lid was beyond repair, couple of light clusters needed etc.
I'm pretty certain they would have slapped a new number plate on and pocketed the rest.
My old man experienced similar, he was hit from behind, car off for repair, got a courtesy car from another company. When he returned it the hire company claimed it was badly scratched - it wasn't - and asked him for his insurance details, he wouldn't give insurance details and instead asked for a quote for the touch up/repaint work because he might choose to pay himself, the scratches magically vanished and the hire company reported to the insurance company that the car was returned satisfactorily, they clearly just fancied bunging in a claim for a respray to the insurance company and pocketing the cash when it came in.

A mate of mine woke up in the back of a range rover in the country side after a heavy session not knowing how he had got there with the owner tapping on the window with a baseball bat. Police were called and the owner claimed he had damaged the inside and he either had to pay up or get arrested. The owner ended up getting a couple of grand off him as he had no other option. That was a very expensive night out, I was crying with laughter the 1st time he told me the story.
