Apparently a few quid cheaper on Play.com, but many wouldn't trust Play as far as they can throw them on high value items. Their customer support is pretty shocking a lot of the time...

excuse my ignance on this one...
My old man has decided he wants a kindle from Santa. I'm sure he would be better off with £100 worth of actual books but he has his mind set on it.
Would it be better to buy a cheap android tablet and just install the kindle reader app? that way he'd have the benefits of the tablet? Is there something I'm missing with the kindle readers, I'm not into it at all -

The reader uses an eink display which uses no power unless it's changing pages. This means battery life can last for weeks, or thousands of page turns. It is a dedicated device for reading books which weighs nothing and, frankly, is awesome. You also get the option of free 3G connectivity to download books from most countries very easily.
Running the kindle app on a tablet gives you the facilities of the kindle store but the management headache of a tablet. 8 hour battery life, Android and glare in direct sunlight.
My family are all ebook crazy. Wife and son prefer kindles. Mother prefers kindle, father prefers iPad running kindle app. I've had all of them and sold them because I read on my phone as it's always with me but reading on a kindle is definitely nicer than reading on a phone/tablet.

Apologies if a re-post, but worrying times. Seems to be US only though:

Jesus!!! that's not cool.
though I do wonder why they use full lines of script for each keystroke...

I'd buy the kindle over a tablet any day chap.
For one the kindle is so much easier to read. There's only so long you can look at a LCD screen (on tablets)
Also the battery life on kindles is phenomenal around a month, which is every piece of technologies dream.
Also you've got the fact if you go on holiday it weighs next to nothing and you won't really mind having it out around the pool/ on the beach.

Any info on the Huawei Vision U8850?
Very well priced for a 1Ghz snapdragen phone running gingerbread.
Seems like a great deal, which should mean I could upgrade my HTC wildfire to one. -

Also, best price I've seen the Eee Pad transformer (16gb) (and they're local to me!)
Amazon dropped their price to £280, then put it up again a few days ago. Prices are almost certainly going to drop a bit further as they shift the TF101 stock before the TF201 (Prime) comes out. Unless you're in a rush I'd buy in Jan if it isn't a Christmas present, or in a week or two if it is.
They are announcing pre-orders for the Prime next month for delivery in early Jan, according to the Asus UK twitter.

Recommend me a basic Android handset with an awesome battery life- going to be used as the "Cycling Phone" and therefore needs to run GPS for ~4 hours without going flat, and still be able to make a call at the end.
Other than that, it does not need to be able to do that much.
I used my Desire and My Tracks to record a ride for the first time today. Moving time 4h 30, total recording time 5h 38. I then played with it a bit on the train home, but it was about to go flat after half an hour so I turned it off. I also used it once or twice to check where I was on the map to confirm directions during the ride.
It's actually just over a year old, so the battery has been recharged c. 365 times. This seems to bode well for you, but you would probably break one like all your other HTCs ;)

Actually on the Kindle, some books are cheaper, even free (like three men on the bummel).
I saw some decent books that cost 50p instead of £6 paperback.

only seemed to work after flashing cm7 then flashing ICS
Chap at work tried to update his HTC somethingorother to an ICS/MIUI rom and had exactly the same issue. He was stuck in a boot loop and had to flash the previous MIUI rom and then the ICS based version to get it working.
Might be worth trying if anyone is intent on trying the most recent ICS rom and suffers the same fate.

Now owner of a Galaxy Nexus.
Erm, wow.
Best phone I've ever owned, bar none.
Best phone I've ever user, bar none... which considering I get to play with almost every phone on the market is saying something.
There are no rough edges on this phone, and the only reported bug seems to have been fixed in an update that arrived shortly after being turned on.
Ice Cream Sandwich is just lovely.

On the right hand side of that phone velocio what are the 3 little buttons together?
Looks like such a great phone, seems they have really thought of everything.
-
• #6273
my only issue with the galaxy nexus is it's a teeny bit too big for single handed operation. I can just reach the opposite side of the screen at the top with my thumb but doing so leaves me in a rather unbalanced, about to drop the phone position which is no good for someone as clumsy as I am.
-
• #6274
Are there Major differences between the Galaxy s2 and the nexus? Or a different target market?
-
• #6275
Hardware wise they're quite similar. The screen on the nexus is larger, the nexus is a bit heftier to hold but feels like a higher quality piece of kit.
They key difference really is the user experience. As with all Nexus products you're getting the true android experience. With the SGSII you're getting Samsungs version of it, bundled with samsung apps, samsung management software and samsung launcher.
Which you prefer is down to you though... YMMV
I'm happy with my SGSII and can flash Cyanogenmod if I want AOSP, samsung free android. I would prefer the build of the Nexus though.
Bloody hell thats cheap!
