Depends if the average price of the bikes would make it worthwhile, you don't want to be the one left with the shitty end of the stick after a £500 outlay.
I think with a collection that serious, he would have catalogued it, or at least had a list of what he owned.
And if the price was really that much of a bargain, he'd have put the catalogue/list with the auction.
