wow, thanks all - lots of good options there.
it's the straight section starting just below the hoods that i like. i figure it will give me a midway position between hoods/tops and on-the-drops. (basically for staying comfy when there's a headwind).
the itm super italia's seem to fit the bill nicely.. and if they're good enough for marco pantani, they're good enough for me!
so now i'm looking for size 39/40, and a new 100mm, 26.0 quill stem....
