as well as the current 'no gays' rule, and IEE's note about tattoos above, there's also something about having had sex with somebody from Africa within the last year.

Drink plenty of water before giving blood, being well hydrated makes it much easier for the blood to flow. The bag blood goes into contains a certain amount of anticoagulent, so if you give too little there is an incorrect blood / anticoagulent ratio and they have to chuck it away. A travesty after sitting there for 20minutes. You still get a biscuit tho.
