  • Second. Had a front and rear light but the front one was pointing backwards. Maybe it was to light up her fluro gear so people could see her more easily....

    I've seen this chick!!

  • Google around. They test on fleas and Rabbit blood. They have a "strict ethical code" but they're not as green as people assume they should be.

Whether that actually matters is for you to decide.

    They tested on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daphnia

Weird. I typed '"Water Fleas" but lfgss has autoscobled me with the latin name. Anyway, I fail to see how a company producing an eco product can assert their claims without some form of testing - and as for using rabbit blood, animal rights activists have been arguing for tissue testing instead of animal testing for years. This particular controversy seems to be being against something for the sake of it, if you ask me.

I saw a woman wearing dark clothing on a dark bike, with no lights, so I unhooked a rear knog I had on mine and gave it to her. Turned out that her previous light had been stolen, so I could have probably been a bit less smart-arse about it. But she was very happy to have a light.

It's a pity those Lezyne lights are so gash, as they appear to have pretty good build quality. I'm sick of lights being made out of the sort of plastic that really disappointing toys from the 80s were made of.

  • On-one glow in the dark

This is it. Me totally wants that frame now ! I would feel like in a 80's great movie on every night ride !

    That's intense!

  • i believe the fibre flare has a few detractors, one of the problems reported is that they are not much good in the rain

and why do i keep seeing people with the wrong colour of lights on their bikes, white on the rear or red at the front?

and recently a spate of blue rear lights

F Flares are good tied on the o/s seat stay and seat post. Mine fell of when I clipped it on the back of my rack bag though...:(

Currently rolling with a smart superflash thing which seems bright enough.

I compared the one I got with an earlier one that my colleague had - the 'on ' button on his was exposed - a little cutout in the silicone end cap, whereas mine had a little bubble there instead. Mine seems to be holding up in the wet all right. Had it a bit less than a year though, so we'll see. Annoyingly, one of the little straps on mine sort of half-snapped, which makes it a bit less secure.

  • I agree with the light comments, but driver get a bike!

  • I think the main problem with Flares in the wet is poor visibility. They seem to be very dim in any condition except dry. Probably something to do with it being a large light with low power.

In other news, I've been using the Blackburn USB lights and have been impressed with their performance so far. Front is very bright and the rear is excellent on my bag or frame.

  • Me, too, roboto. I like them except the low threshold for "needs charging" to "oh fuck it". I finally figured out that the flashy light on top changes to yellow and then red as it drains.

  • Ha! Yeah, my commute is considerably shorter these days so I can get away with not charging for an extra day usually. Then I know I've got to find the the USB connector. Wherever I left it!

  • Full length coat, high heels, no lights and smoking is the most ridiculous thing I have seen this week on a bike

Smoking whilst cycling is a dying art. Srsly though, I think it's AWESOME and sexy.

    Sanctimonious, self-righteous pricks

    hahah nice one.

I have decided it's fucking stupid to attempt to talk to anyone about lights except to say 'stop giving me an eppy with your ultalumen superstrobe death flash: this is fucking a Richmond Park, it's pitch black, wouldn't you rather actually see what's on the road in front of you all the time rather than four times a second?

  • Link? Is this the spoke light things?

Yes, these are the ones http://www.niteize.com/collections/led/products/spokelit

  • nice lights:

...for boys of a certain age - how good was QED by the way?!

I keep mine in a little coin purse that has the shraeder to presta valve converter needed for my mini pump. Win!

  • Although this is dodge right?

I mean, they're basically trying to fool people into thinking they are police (from a distance), such that they slow right down.

Not a bad idea, except for the bit where you fool people into believing you're police.

Just remembered the same day this was posted I spotted one in the wild on tooley street. the guy wearing it was brought to my attention when he roared in disapprovement at a bus that pulled away from the lights as he was trying to squeeze up the inside of it. his impotent rage and extremely poor road awareness all but made him the poster child for the vest, you couldn't find a better example of their target market (except maybe the banshee).

  • Those 'Polite' vests have been around for ages. I remember seeing them at Critical Mass in the 90s. The police generally thought they were good fun, I think.

  • For all those that have finally got the message from the 'Get some fking lights' thread this goes out to you.
Those new lights run on batteries. Batteries are not perpetual motion and they do sooner or later run out. When you turn your lights on check that they actually do come on and that they are indeed bright enough to be seen more than 5 paces away! Furthermore, when you get to your destination and before you turn your lights off, check that they are still on and working. If they don't meet these exacting standards, get some f
    king new batteries!
Seriously this is particularly important on these cold, damp and misty mornings. Car windscreens do not clear easily in these conditions and you could be damn near invisible until it's too late. I don't want you on my bonnet conscience.

    True.

although shouldn't be setting off if you can't see proper.

  • True too but this is the real world where drivers do not always abide by these rules. It's also the time of year when drivers discover they need new wipers as the old ones are just smearing the windscreens rather than clearing them completely.
My main concern is about cyclists maintaining the upper hand and staying safe.

  • Riding down Gower Street about 5.30pm a panniered hybrid was rocking three Smart Lunar R2s on flash mode. He didn't think it was a problem.

  • 76 quid?

    and they look like fleshlights...

/i saw one when i accidentaly clicked on a link whilst i was searching for pictures of cats.
