  • I had an interesting experience with re-cycle at Elephant/Castle. guy did a great job of stitching me a new rim on an old hub. bit cheaper than other places and no spokes broken after 6 months.

but isn't that how it's supposed to be? even if it's cheaper?

  • thanks for the map it has come in handy many times!

  • Thanks Mattty. This will definately come in handy incase something horribly goes wrong, which it wheel (pun) eventually... Gah...

This would be brilliant for anyone using an iPhone or something, Google Phone is it called?.

I recall passing by a brilliant bike store somewhere in Teddington. Had the most incredible selection of Wheels & Frames. Can't remember the name though, or what street it was on. But I was looking through the window at 3am for about 5 minutes.

  • Has anyone seen the new shop of where Roseberry Avenue crosses with Grays Inn Road?
I think called London Bike Workshop?
Right round the corner from Condor
There is only a sign up at the moment, looks like the shop wont be open for a while

Opposite my office - Hadn't noticed - will have to check it out tomorrow.

  • as a geographer by trade, with an unhealthy obsession with maps, i officially approve of this thread.

    that is all.

  • just added city cycle gear on westbourne park road -

been open a year apparently - small cycling boutique - unlikely to see many london dynamo types in there but some cool and stylish cycling gear / accessories, stickers etc - smart rather than utilitarian and in the urban / fixie trend. bloke in there was really friendly and showed me some pics of awesome little fg/ss bikes he's putting together, look like a cross between bmx's and bromptons - idea seems to have come from japan - 5 squid for a couple of rim tapes was a bit much but for a place like that i guess it goes with the territory.

  • Matty, Central Cycles in Finchley has now closed.

  • I have just had my sister on the phone with a flat tyre in Elephant, I tried to talk her through a repair but ended up guiding her to a bike shop.

Made me wonder though, how upto date is this map. What with the recent slew of shops opening, and a couple of closures, is this still a reliable source...?

  • If a shops's missing, click through to the map and edit it yourself.

  • Yah yah,
I'm down with the principal, was just wondering whether the map has been stagnant for ages.

  • Never seen this before. Good show.

Added Micycle in Islington. Crap name and never used them, but more LBS are always a good thing.

  • Added 2 in Shoreditch/Old Street:

    http://www.lebeauvelo.co.uk/

    And one in Honor Oak:

    All good places.

  • Brilliant map, thanks!

Just a heads up, two shops in SW6 have now closed. Mend-a-bike and Bonthrone Bikes. Though the good news is that Putney Cycles have opened two more stores in Putney.

    Oh btw hello.

  • secretmechanic@gmail.com

    secret secret

    wonderfull workshop

  • bump to ask: Anybody recommend a west end bike shop with a good range of spokes?

  • You could try Fitzrovia (neé Cavendish) Cycles. Not sure though.

  • Just updated Central Cycles in Crystal Palace/ Gypsy Hill. The shop was rennovated this year and is now called Blue Door Bikes. I'm yet to visit but it looks good.

There is information about the old shop, the renovation and all the wonderful stuff they found here and the new shops website is here

  • Cool map. Just added Full City Cycles on Leather Lane. I credit Lawrence with getting me back on a bike. The shop has an 'organic' nature about it, and damn fine coffee.http://www.fullcity.cc/

  • The Bike Light Shop is not really a shop (SWLondon based) - it's a website only. But they do deliver by bike which is quite cool. www.thebikelightshop.co.uk

  • Is this map still being actively updated?

Am working on something along the same lines, but not fixed-centric.

PM me if you want to get involved — considering hiring a couple of people for a marathon data-entry session + beers. You'd be paid & get some CycleLove swag into the bargain. Experience in Wordpress would count in your favour but ain't essental.

  • A couple more:

    Foffa bikes,

Don't know if they are any good, never used them:

    http://foffabikes.com/

My mate got a stolen peugot of this guy (he did not realise at the time) but might be OK for other stuff, good for bartering.

    Ha, Read this thread:

    http://www.lfgss.com/thread35474.html

Maybe I should be more descriptive, foffa used to have one of the worst mechanics in London, they've got rid of him... But they are still far from recommended by this forum.

  • Londoners on Bikes had a set of data on all of the bike shops that supported them. The list was up to date as per the last Mayoral election. PM me if you want more details.

For user generated maps, I'd really recomend using the Google Speedsheet Mapper too - http://www.google.co.uk/earth/outreach/tutorials/spreadsheet3.html
