190mm cranks with a higher gear is not going to turn very easily.
Why not. As long as the length and gear increases are proportional (or whatever the relationship between them is), why should it be any more difficult?
In my mind, though I may be wrong, as long as I get all the proportions right (and if we ignore centre of gravity for a minute), the only effect should be less rotation, in bigger circles.

I guess different people do different things like on a road bike I average 100rpm where others might average 80rpm. We experimented a fair bit on the track and changing from 165 to 177.5 made a big difference.
But how tall are you?
The average person has a 31" inside leg, I have a 38" inside leg. That's 20% more.
If you assume it's proportional, assuming a 31" inside leg rides 170mm, a 38" inside leg should be riding something like a 210mm crank. Obviously the correct formula may not be proportional, but I'm fairly convinced I should use bigger cranks than 170.

There's a lot about crank length on the Zinn website.

Basically saying that it's all a conspiracy.
You get your long cranks, nobody puts John H in the corner.

Well, it's only an idea at the moment, just thinking things through. I'd love to be proven wrong, as then I don't have to change as much.

H-Bomb; Blowing up on a court near you... Soon! ;)
FWIW 190 cranks sound like a crackpot idea to me...

Interesting, according do their figures I should be using 208mm. So that confirms what I was thinking.
Obviously that doesn't account for polo usage. And the fact they sell custom cranks.

Exactly. Conspiracies within conspiracies.
It's a bike fit nightmare as well, your knees will be hitting your chin.

If you assume it's proportional
Crank length for tall riders (from Zinn): Crank length (mm) = Inseam (mm) X 0.21. So for you, that's 202.692 mm.
Gadzooks, he's right.
John H: Now with 20% more bomb.

i will be running 175's on new bike. the only reason i ever went to 160's was because of pedal strike.

Well, only 10%, as I'll only be going up to 190mm.

Well, it's only an idea at the moment, just thinking things through. I'd love to be provenrad, as then I don't have to change anything for the next couple of years.

You can chose whatever color you want.
The only thing is that I can't guarantee that it'll turn out exaclty how you want it, so what I would say is keep it simple and succeed. -

And what if we want disk brake mounts?

If Marino didn't already deal directly with the public, I'd support his endeavour but I don't see what extra value there is in an Alej-supplied frame vs a Marino-direct frame.
If you kept some frames in stock so people could have their bikes in less than a week, you'd be providing a useful service and I'd support it.

Ale has sorted (and tested I imagine) set sizes of polo geometry for those players that can't do it for themselves... fair enough I reckon.
