Which winter shoes / boots are people using?

  • We have two, one is a pedigree Siamese/stray Ginger Tom cross who is short haired- I think he'd only make suitable footwear for fairly warm climates.

The other is a Maine Coon/Ragdoll/Something else, and would be suitable for pretty chilly conditions I think

  • Might get a couple of these....

  • What *is *that?! It looks like a weird photoshop morph of a snow leopard type thing turned in to a seal.

  • I dunno but I want one.

  • Lets not talk about seals and footwear. Its about now a fair few of the locals dig these out.

  • Although sayin that. I reckon I could mod a cleat mount onto those.......

    ....looks around for pick-axe

  • Might get a couple of these....

    Half cat, half tea-cosy?

  • How does it move, it's just a mass of fur with, seemingly, no legs. Magnets?

Good luck getting the pot out from under it.

That is not a cooperative face.

    Hoover cat is here.

    ......soon etc.

Throw a fish over your shoulder=get to the tea pot

    Trainer thread

  • So far, so good.

  • Did you give up on your MW80's?

Ive been using the Lakes for a few weeks now and I must say im very happy. They're comfy and warm and despite the ankle cuffs still letting in a bit of water (this could be solved by wearing waterproof trousers/gaitors but the weather hasn't required it so far) they keep your feet warm even when damp. I no longer dread riding in the rain, or through puddles, not waiting for that horrible feeling of ice cold water seeping slowly through the top of my shoes. The spacey lacing system is great, you can quite easily adjust them while on the bike and they're easy and comfortable to walk in off the bike too.

Only downsides are they look a bit dorky (but then they were never meant to be a fashion statement) and ive already managed to lose one of the studs off the sole, but whatever well worth the cash I reckon.

  • Size 44 Sidi Dragons actually have more room in the toebox than size 45 MW80's.

So to wear thick socks the MW80 kind of rules itself out.

  • Vans and a pair of Sealskins. Job done

  • ^^Subsequent to my last post I've decided to flog the MW80's and buy some bigger boots.

I've come to the conclusion that if there is nothing wrong with the boots then there must be something wrong with how I am wearing them- and blood circulation is what I am losing, so they must be too tight.

If anyone has some 46 MW80's that I could try then that would be awesome.

  • have you considered merino socks too? much better insulation and wicking than other fabrics - so keep your feet warmer and drier (so that the sweat in the sock does not become so cold)

  • looks at LMNH woolie boolies, looks at DJ, looks back at LMNH woolie boolies.

  • why are you wearing summer race shoes with mesh?

*i do too, but don't actually moan about it

    :)

  • Murtle- experimenting really, I can fit my feet into the MW80's with the Woolie Boolie socks on, but that immobilises my toes, and they lose all circulation.

So, I tried my Dragons with covers, which was actually better than the MW80's in that my toes were less constricted, but still pretty miserable ultimately.

I refuse to believe that there is no solution to cold feet!

  • Moral- don't try winter boots on whilst wearing thin socks.

  • If you are really struggling then try the disposable toe heater things used by skiers. Don't use them in vented shoes though, they react to air and will get too hot.

I'm doing alright sofar this winter (down to 0 degrees) with Dominators, innersoles, thick merino socks and good overshoes.

  • Innersoles?
