i like the thrifty style, but that's surely not gonna keep the water from getting through into my laptop when it's raining hard though. does anybody dare own up to having a hump one? if so, how is it?
No experience of Humps but if it's waterproofing you need just buy a cheap dry sack from a camping shop and stick that in your rucksack (you can go full on rubber but they are bulky or you can get one of the thinner more 'nylon' ones). I get the impression the Hump covers are all about visability rather than protection from water.

this sort of thing?
interesting, cheers for the advice. yeah interested mostly for waterproofing although hi viz is probably a slight plus too. when i'm driving i find hi viz stuff more visible on cyclists than lights. the dry sacks are cheaper as well though so thanks for the tip - will check one out in store.

Not sure about a cure but just to warn you I had something like this that went on for 6 weeks (!!!) last year. All good after it stopped but it fucked me right off (it was the sleep disruption that was the worst). I got a bit worried after 4 weeks (in my mind I had lung cancer or ebola or something) and went to the GP. They said there was a lot of it around and it was a virus. They gave me a choice of waiting it out or taking some antibiotics. I did the latter and it worked (or more likely was a coincidence).
Nothing else helped - I tried every over the counter cough remedy going. All of them crap. I'm healthy, exercise, eat well and tend not to get sick at all but this took ages to shake. Hope your version is less severe.
Oh and just as I was getting better my girlfriend got the same thing.
Cheers mate!
From what I have read, coughs like this are best left to their own devices anyway. Its just your body trying to clear itself out a bit.
I'm definitely on the mend so hopefully I'm not going to be as rough as you were! Just starting to get frustrated with the lack of sleep thats all.

I want to build a rear wheel for one of my track frames. I've got a rim and a hub ready and waiting. I happen to have some spare spokes from an abandoned project.
Is 24h 2 cross adviseable for a rear track wheel? Or is that lacing pattern not suitable? No biggie either way, I can always invest in some appropriate length spokes for 3 cross.

I say it'll be fine, but as usual, I don't know what I'm talking about.

^^
The general rule is divide the number of holes by 9, what ever that number rounds down to gives you the maximum number of crosses.
So 24h / 9 = 2.6 = 2x
How deep is the rim?
You could always try half radial to mix it up.

Or perhaps the instructions to the pharmacist would have read "one red sugar pill x 3 per day, but put it in the antibiotic wrapping".

Its a 50mm alloy rim. Rigid.
I'm pretty sure I've got a 24h wheel built up 3 cross...am I imagining this?

I've got a really productive and persistant cough since I had a heavy cold for the last 6 days or so.
This cough is keeping me awake at night and it has got to the point that all the coughing has strained my stomach muscles and given me a sore throat!
Can anybody recommend a way for me to help my body expel what it is trying to expel? Do expectorants work? Maybe inhale steam?
Have you tried...

No, you *can *do it. In the same way you can build a 32h 4x.
The logic against it, is that the spokes will be lying too horizontally*.
As far as I'm concerned, the conventional wisdom is 24h = 2x or less, and on the rear more crosses = good. Therefore, if it were me I would build it 2x. End of. Plus it sounds like you have spare spokes the right length for a 2x - but even if you didn't 24 x £1 = not a fortune.
*worst description ever.

Got it, cheers Hugo.
I've just found another set of spokes that might be ok for 3 cross as it happens. I think they are 2mm too long but given that it is a 50mm rim, it could be ok.
Only one way to find out!

Doctoring fail.
In fairness they did point this out but I think they wanted to get rid of me before I coughed on more people.
That said at the same time I was having some trouble with my stools and... actually the forum probably doesn't need to know the next bit.

I'm trying to make a belt out of old skidded tyre. Now I need a rivet gun. Does anyone know where I can borrow one? Was thinking putting a chain link instead to hold buckle. Ah, and where can I buy a buckle?

Why isn't it 'Mouvember'? I mean I understand they have crow barred 'Mo' in to make it fit with November. But no-one ever calls a moustache a 'Mo'?
What a lot of nonsense

Boyfriend moved to Penrith.
Think Jess is working her arse off in a conventional job because cycle instructing wasn't paying off.
Finally, I suspect she has realised that we're mostly a bunch of dickheads.

Got one of these Salter 503Orsscr Gourmet Oven Thermometer With Silicone Grips: Amazon.co.uk: Kitchen & Home - had it ages. Still works and is accurate.
One tip - don't leave it in the oven when you aren't using it as the glass gets dirty over time making it hard to read (but oven cleaner takes care of that problem).
