Any least favourite parts about cycling I may have soon evaporate once I'm actually cycling except the distraction of being wound up by the people I have to work with in the day by their deliberate snide and cliched remarks about cyclists.
I don't bite but I cracked once and told a senior manager ( ha! he's 20 years younger than me ) what he'd just spewed out was deeply offensive/wrong/unfunny . This was around the time of recent cyclist fatality. Nearly got me into a lot of trouble. This 'senior' manager was also the the little shit whose contribution in a get well soon card sent to me at home while I was recovering from a nasty smash was " grow up and get a car".I'm getting wound up again now ...
Is there a 'least favourite part about not cycling' thread ? -

It's probably not on people's radar.

Brent? what? the place?
Yeah; cycling facilities are pretty crap, but mainly the issue is the bollocks the council puts down instead of tarmac. I mean it wears out into ruts and potholes, usually, within 18 months. Even shorter in bus lanes, and then they dig up the road for 3 weeks to replace it with the same crappy surface. I don't see why they cant fork out for good quality stuff that'll last years and then save money in the long run instead.

My least favourite thing is gears.
I use a geared bike often but really this shit should have been banned by the UCI in 1948 and no later.
Imagine cycling with a the arms-race aspect (mostly) removed.

My least favourite thing is gears.
I've been riding around on my geared hybrid since having a headset fail on my real bike and it's horrible. Keep moving away from lights at snails' pace and muttering "MOVE YOU PIECE OF SHIT" at the bike before suddenly remembering it's got gears and I can just change the gears up and down as required. But even then I haven't figured out how to modify my effort depending on the gear I'm in so if I shift down into a low gear I still put SS-style effort in as I move off and instantly start hamster-wheeling.
I don't like it :(

see, I love gears. Being able to shift down as you fly up a steady hill to keep your cadence up, then the little nudge of the index finger to shift up again as you level out at the top, up again, and again put some power down and watch your speed go into the mid 30s...
..gears are ace!

The mental torture I put myself through pretty much constantly when riding a fair distance. It is not relaxing.
