Bike and owner are due to be reunited next week!
Thanks again to everyone for reading and posting here, and the behind-the-scenes efforts. I appreciate all the advice, and the kind words. I will stick around, even though I (mostly) ride the wrong kind of bike.
there is no wrong kind of bike-let's hear no more of that clap-trap! (What the furks is clap-trap anyway?)Good Karma will come your way!

This is really good news!
It does restore faith in human nature.
Karma is a wonderful thing and there must be a ton of it coming to the OP.

Someone who received the email knew his workmate was in an accident at that time and rides a Bob Jackson. He was able to loosely define the bike (color, aerospoke), and when we connected with his workmate he described the accident and full bike details.

A Spok? Well, that changes everything.
not really, obviously.

This has cheered me up massively, good to see doing the right thing hasn't died off in everybody. I'm sure you'll find the correct owner. If you've not tried the avenues suggested of 101 (police information) and contacting the hospitals, do, the police should be able to put you in contact with the officer in charge who should have details of all persons involved in an RTA attended.

No such thing as the wrong bike.
If you mean Motorbike then again there is nowt wrong with that. We all share the road.

Awesome! This thread made me so happy (and when I got the email) but now you've found the rider, it makes me even more happy! This forum is awesome.

Aw. I'm all warm and happy inside reading this. Apart from the coming-off-bike-smashing-head-open bit.

Nice to read stories like this, after having a nasty accident and then the fear of it being lost/stolen would be gutting.
Only to find a decent cyclist did what he did.
Good effort Tryingtoreturnbike

The owner has been traced, and he will be re-united with his bike this week.
Contact has been made, it's all sorted.
Well done on the OP, restores faith in human nature. There's no doubt in my mind that the bike would likely have not been recovered had it not been for him.
I got knocked off a few years ago (in Luton) and was going to be taken to hospital, when I asked what was going to happen to the bike the old bill just said they'd have to leave it at the roadside. I ended up riding the 15 miles home with a busted elbow socket and road rash rather than lose the bike.
