Quick explanation of the affiliate fees please. If we use the link from this thread does LFGSS automatically gain and if so is it only via these links or are there other ways?
-
• #353
If you post a link on LFGSS for one of those retailers, then it should be automatically converted into an affiliate link.
If someone subsequently clicks that link and (importantly) makes a purchase, then LFGSS earns a bit of that transaction.
How much LFGSS gets varies, it can depend on whether the retailer is already discounting, how much the item is worth, whether you later return the item, etc. Also, different products have different rates. But you can reasonably expect anything from 0.5% > 2.5% might go to the forum.
So a few pence of each transaction ends up in the coffers. Which makes each transaction pretty worthless really. But why it actually makes a difference is that LFGSS is huge, and lots of transactions happen every day. So those pennies really do add up in a big way.
Serious money can only be earned if someone is going to buy something like a truck or car on eBay and posts the link here before bidding. Bicycles aren't worth enough to make much money per item sold, but vehicles, they are worth tons.

They need to stop pretending those builds are 'SRAM Red' They have 3 out of 8 groupset components. The e-flyer rather disingenuously includes a picture of a complete Red groupset

So are you saying the offer isn't as unparralled as they are claiming?
-
• #364
I'm saying it's stretching credibility to describe them as "SRAM Red Bikes". They are SRAM Apex bikes with upgraded shifters.
Chainset - Apex
BB - Apex
Chain - PC1050 (Apex grade)
Cassette - PG1050 (Apex grade)
Brakes - Non-series (Apex grade)
Shifters - Red
RD- Red
FD - Red -

I'm with 'tester on this, the way they market their bikes annoys me as well. When they do knock one out with full Red or DA it's always excellent value but I'd rather see the cheap builds with a selection of intermediate kit rather than a mishmash of high and low end.
-
• #366
The "Red" builds are particularly pointless, since SRAM shifters get expensive without getting any better in function. Adding exotic materials to knock a few grams off makes no difference to the user experience. On the other hand, the Red chainset is 130g lighter than Apex, more than the total difference between the Red (505g) and Rival (610g) shifter+RD+FD subgroups. Since there is no functional difference across SRAM groups, if you're going to mix and match to keep down to a budget you might as well be a weightweenie about it, and PX seem to have gone precisely the wrong way.

I gather the attraction of red shifters is the "zero loss" feature, not light weight. Force has it on the front only and Red has it on front and rear. #fromunreliablememory

Rival & Apex now have ZeroLoss too.

I need a flash drive with a decent amount of memory, so I found this one:

I ordered some FI.Mille shorts in small before remembering that I'm actually a medium in
Euro GimpAssos.I'll try them on when they arrive (over my incontinence pants) but it would be a surprise if they fit. I can obviously send them back but I could pass them on via the medium of forum if anyone's interested...
-

Rod what are your vital statistics, if you don't mind me asking? I've not owned any Assos before.
I'm presuming these will fit me based on what I could gather online, but not sure...
Unless of course... they imagine that you bolt the top of the stand to the wall.
But then... who works on only one side of a bike? You need to be able to move around the bike when you work on it.
