Ironically, our younger daughter was almost born in a car because of Liverpool.
We were living about 200 yards from Highbury. I had just returned from a three and a half week trip to the US on the Saturday when MrsO woke me on the Sunday morning to say that her contractions had started two weeks early. Liverpool were playing Portsmouth in the FA Cup semi final at Highbury that day.
We tried to make arrangements for my father -in-law to come over and look after our 18 month old daughter. There was no way he could drive over. We bunged her in the car and told him to meet us at the hospital. Roads were closed. We made it to Highbury Corner but then were stuck. I saw a police car. Got out of my car and explained the issue. He turned on his blues and twos and a couple of police motor cyclists joined in behind us as we dashed down Holloway Road. We arrived half an hour before Camilla was born and, much to my wife's chagrin, too late for an epidural.
The game was a draw but the scousescum won the replay.
