Hi - Scrubs here - New user, so just getting out of the nursery asap.
I'm lucky enough to ride a 'Larry vs Harry' cargo bike for my job as a courier and its great fun! Amazed, daily at the loads it will take. Definately the best cargo bike out there!

It was here....I understand. I'm in Canadaland, but I'm fully aware of the impact of the Battle of Britain on London and other areas around the UK. I'll bet that the clean up crews had to deal with some pretty nasty chemical residues on top of all the other more obvious dangers and heartache.

Hi I have been lurking for some time, but thought to share this link: http://www.facebook.com/note.php?created&¬e_id=258655220817975#!/pages/Building-a-bike-for-life/257081887641975
I am doing my thesis about cargobike and it seems that here is lot of experience of using those things. So if you could share some of that for me I would be really thankful.Peace

Hi hi.
Here is my Civia Halsted which is a wonderful new cycle truck I will be selling to butchers, bakers, candlestick makers and anyone who wishes to move more by bicycle. I have added a decent Axa ring-lock and some Shadow Conspircy pedals. I've been riding her for a week and I am really happy with it.
I think it warrents proper testing so I am looking for one or two days per week with any courier firms who may be keen. Any suggestions. I know Creative use a Bullitt already and Zero a Christinia.
Anyway, I'll upload better pics when I take em!
I'll also be sourcing a bunch of Azor pick up racks in ther near future;

I still need to know what one of these is, or if there is a term used for them in Holland to make it easier to find one. Looks the perfect thing for riding some serious weight long distance in a quirky manor :p

It's a custom made from two great Danish products: The Long John cargo bike and the BFC 'asspusher' bike/moped engine.
-
• #335
A BFC Asspusher from '51. From my hometown, if the license plate is correct...

Oh, and regarding the weigth: Back when I did deliveries on a Long John, we could have 7 crates of beer on it, which is around 350 lbs. On cobbled roads...

Cheers, found them now, well, the long johns, engines a bit more illusive. Any videos of them? Bet they have a good soundtrack to them and a satisfying plume of blue 2stroke :p

Can't find any videos of them running, but from 2:10 and forwards you can see some different 'røveskubbere'; BFC, Diesella etc: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asyrSFaYHAk"]Røvskubber.mp4

He starts it at around 2:40...Fantastic, thats exactly what I was after. Cold start it makes a nice iconic noise.
If I was to move into a city I would love to get hold of one of those, especially a cargo bike varient on a Long John or similar. Are they fairly common in Copenhagen or rare? -

The Long Johns are fairly common - The motors are not.

Anyone know of a UK forum or web site specific for cargo bikes? I've got a Big Dummy and it's become my bike of choice (except when trains are involved in the travel) lately, and I'd quite like to know what's going on in the community. A Google of the subject matter returned nothing much in the UK.
Link whoring but here's some MT stuff on cargo bikes...

Are you riding the Bluebird or the Clockwork Orange? I see both regularly around Soho. Def one of the nicest cargo bikes around.
I've got a 1968 Long John which I'm rebuilding, can't wait to get it on the road.

Attached the wrong bike, this is my Long John
And this is my 1938 Batavus which is a fixie! Being a trike you can reverse and parallel park. White van man hates me when I ride it to work in Soho
It's missing the massive wooden box and when it finished it will weigh 140kg so I'm avoiding hills -

if only there were a forum of cargo bike users... maybe velocio could give up his job on the forum to work on one..I got the Trike in Holland and the Long John in Denmark. You can get them fairly cheap but the only problem is getting them back here.
A running but rough looking Long john starts at about £200 and I used Shiply.com to get it back here. Couriers bid on the delivery and that puts another £160 to get it back to the UK. Then I'm going to build a box and seat for the kids.Best place to look for second hand Bakfiets is on marktplaats.nl
If you want a Long John then look at dba.dk
Another job I never had the opportunity to avoid applying for. I'm sure protection from whatever hazardous material they were cleaning up went by the wayside.
