  • From a personal point of view, I had no idea I had it in me. I know its not breaking any records, but it is for me.

No we didn't eat at all. Probably why I'm still to recover.

Anyway, we are derailling the thread...its in weekend rides if you want to comment.

  • favourite tag series: ego boost, ego death, ego faster on a vespa

  • Think I left part of my soul (and maybe a lung) somewhere in Cambridgeshire.

    same again this weekend? :D

  • Wouldn't mind seeing if I can touch 19mph on the same route geared. Sadly I'm otherwise engaged all weekend. Getting you drunk on Saturday for your birthday for one...

  • that was me, hi
saw two guys going anti on fixed, one wearing red jersey and another one on a silver/chrome bike, both with drops...(wasn't really paying attention today and done my laps absentmindedly)
    which one were you?

I was in black on silver gray fuji (with bullhorns tho), I think I was just getting to the top of the climb towards Richmond Gate.

  • I'd forgotten that I'd agreed to my bike going on display here for the next couple of weeks, so no gears for me on Friday at Richmond Park...

Will probably try and set a fixed time instead. Incidentally, check out the exhibition, his work is great.

I have not one jot of sympathy for you, that Donahue bike is one of the nicest things I have ever seen. I want to see it in the flesh though, so shall be attending the exhibition. Also winter riding with the bb shell?

  • if anyone's going tonight, Ill be going anti clockwise on a red basso, wearing black, with a fluro stripe on one arm, from around 8pm.

  • 'FixedCheese Babybel of Speed' award

Dude, this is awesome. However, I must spread rep, etc.

You do realise he is going to the park tomorrow on a fixed-wheel bicycle?

With one hand he giveth, he taketh with the other

  • geared too high though, I'll probably give up after one lap three laps.

  • Ah we'll see! Very nice babybell medal by the way, that is some nice MS Paint work

It won't be seeing any wet weather, but I was hoping to set a few times on it before it gets put away for winter. Will be giving it a go on my fixed with shoulder-width risers instead - will feel nice in the Spring when I get back on the road bike!

Will have to ride the Donhou to work tomorrow, then hand it over to someone to ride from Victoria to LMNH.

Does that mean you're gonna have a go at my time fixed then?

Yeah, I know... but at least I can claim a connection to the origins of the medal's name!

I'll have a go at it, but don't get worried. I'm a bit chubbier and slower than I was last year. Incidentally, last year I was a bit chubbier and slower than the year before. Incidentally, etc, etc...

  • I just tried out Strava on my iPhone: 7.3 miles from Victoria to Tooting, according to my bike computer. Comes up as a 4 mile straight line. Am I doing something wrong?

I dont know why it has done that at the bottom. it doesnt look like that in the box you type in. sorry.

Beautiful evening, new bike felt lovely. Test riding a fizik antares which I found a bit harsh. also had no bartape as still deciding on stem. oh, and my little toe hurt because my new shoes are very stiff. So all in all quite an uncomfortable ride. Also stopped twice for deer. If it wasn't for all this I estimate I would have done it in about, say, 52 minutes...

  • ^ Fixed. Did you do night laps then? Now that really would be another category all together!

  • I love it at night. No cars is wonderful, pushing into the corners on the descents, lights off, the landscape takes on an eerie stillness. But the deer do love to stand in the road, gotta watch out for that. My first lap was bang on 20 mins, so will definitely improve next time.

  • pushing into the corners on the descents, lights off

lights off? did you cycle without any lights?
i'd love to go during the night but don't fancy being knocked over by a deer

  • I'd stay out of the park at night for the next 6 weeks, it's time for the annual dear cull.

  • On an Australia Day ride a few year's back, we did a lap of RP in the dark with no lights. The deer were less of a problem than joggers, most of whom had chosen to listen to their iPods. I think we only maimed three of them.
