My xc717's with a stans conversion have been faultless.
no doubt but considering you can have a proper bead designed for running with only the yellow tape (no heavier rimstrip) plus a wider rim for a better tyre profile (xc717's are old school narrow) and be a lot stronger so a stans rim is the way to go.
a pair of flow's is their 'downhill' rim yet they weigh less than a 717.
