I'm worried as to how an evidently very small child has already learned to sort his problems by heartily thumping whatever has irritated him.

kids do that kind of stuff a lot; they get upset and lash out. The little lad is obviously crying and upset with the cat for some reason and doesn't have the capabilities yet to rationalise the whole thing so swings at his tormentor who then gives him a proper seeing to much to our amusement

The child might learn to be weary of the cat... or murder it and become a serial killer, while his parents think it'll have great youtube kudos
