Stunning! What is the name of that red?
I have a scruffy looking jackson in dark red flam which has seen better days but put off having jacksons do it as they sound like they are maybe going a bit downhill :s
Can vax do flam? -

Hi
I have quite a few frames resprayed by Vaz finishers and chipping is a problem. I think his paint is to hard and, on impact, the paint chips rather than scratches. Having said that, he is about half the price of a really top-class finisher like Mercian in Derby or Argos in Bristol. I wouldn't take a top-notch frame to Vaz but I would take lower quality frames.

I had heard that that was a consequence of the paints changing to reflect health concerns- i.e. older paints with chemicals we now know to be a bit fierce were a bit more flexible and could absorb some stone strikes which cause modern paint to chip as it is more brittle.
This could, of course, be bollocks however.

Got my frame sprayed by Mario in July....was told leave it at least a month before building to let the paint fully cure....i'm not building the frame up until next spring.....but the paint 'seems' fairly hard now.

that's a ridiculously high price, I'd rather have yours! It doesn't have the crimps you get on a Mexico either which suggests to me it isn't.

Does anyone know how much he charges for a clear coat? Need a cheap, not arsed about what it looks like as long as it keeps the rust out, clear coat on a raw frame, like.

30.00 but that included masking the chrome bits:

He was mentioned in cycling plus for...
stripping a steamroller and advising against riding it without any kind of coating.

eh?
'e's a fine fella -

Yeah, well you would advise someone to coat their stripped frame.. otherwise it will rust.

£30 for a clearcoat is awesome. Half the price of Armortex. Probably half the job but for a polo bike, that's all I need. Cheers!

Arse, apparently if you clearcoat steel it will still rust.

I didn't implied that it's bad, just that he was mentioned for something he's not known to do generally (stripping frame instead of painting them.

Yes, but slowly.
If it is just for a polo bike why not just get 2 rattle cans and do it yourself?
This is mine sorry not the clearest picture in the world, but overall it's fine after 6m of use. If it's for polo, I'd have thought the frame will die from game damage before rust damage.
If you wanted to get it an extra layer of protection, you could use jenolite. It will turn the metal a dark stained colour though - which could be cool. For a whole bike I would use the liquid rather than the gel.
The thing is, if you really are worried about protecting it, you'd just get it powdercoated.

He said it would rust after a couple of months.
I'm having some work done on the front end so it will need something to cover up the raw.
I liked the idea of Nitromorsing the whole lot and clear coating to stop the rust and pay £30. I don't really want to pay £60 on top of what I'm paying to have the work done, to get it powdercoated.
I guess I could find someone else who's getting black and get the bits filled in. Or would they have to do the whole frame?
The frame is a triple butted strong chromo DJ frame so I don't expect this to die at polo any time soon!

Need to go see him myself about painting this custom stem I have.

Just picked up my Eddy Merckx and it's an ok job. Look you get what you pay for, i've now had five frames resprayed by various outfits in the UK and Argos are the best to date. they aren't cheap but the quality and workmanship shows.
