Yeah they won't let your run a langster on the velodrome. There's a minimum bottom bracket height requirement.

Actually that info came from a chap who was running a Langster on the velodrome last week - "Occassional pedal strike" he said :-o

I'll be there with a couple of guys from notts, black feather cycles track frame. see you guys there!

As I mentioned last night, Rich from Hacked Off (Bristol) is passing through MCR this weekend, so I'm hauling his sorry ass over to the Red Bull event on Saturday night - should be there around 8pm.
Anyone know if there's a bar there and is anyone planning on going elsewhere afterwards?

Ok, well they aren't meant to let you run langsters anyway.

who won?????
-
• #44
The Red Bull sponsored Latvian World Champion who has his own minidrome to practice on.... Closely followed by a host of Red Bull sponsored riders...
-
• #45
Yeah... that would make sense. What a piss take.
-
• #46
Well it's their event, at the end of the day its a marketing/promotional event, not anything else....
-
• #47
Any proper track riders in attendance?
-
• #48
^ Liam Phillips raced.
Tbh I was happy to see guys who knew what they were doing race & win, regardless of sponsorship. You don't hear folks complaining that Hoy won the nationals at the proper 'drome.

Latvian World Champion
Is that the chap who went all handbags-at-dawn when he qualified second :)
There were a few half-decent track riders, but they didn't seem to do that well (possibly 'cos converted track bikes aren't the tool for the job). Even the grass-trackers, which I imagine its got more in common with, seemed to be struggling.

Thing is there is a possibility of training on the same tracks Hoy races on, you can clock up many, many hours of practice riding on proper 'dromes, and a structure that lets you train to become as good as Hoy should you have the talent and inclination....
with the way this event runs, you get 6 laps to get used to the feel and then straight onto your 10 lap quali... clearly the top placed guy is a great rider, but i reckon everyone who turned up on the day for their 1 shot at riding the track would be able to improve quite a bit with a bit more experience on that track, and seeing as Redbull have the only track there's no way for you to gain that practice....

Yes, if I trust the bumph! But I've heard even something like a Langster will pedal-strike on Manchester velodrome...
