OK the new pedals are on, really liking them - nice and easy to disengage with a simple twist and pull

Which straps did you go for in the end?
-

Re-straps, I prefer the adjustability over powergrips - even tho I managed to put them on backwards first time around :-)
They were a little fiddly to get on but nothing too major -

A question for a mate (possibly a noob question), he's got a 3 speed brompton, and wants to change the shifter, will any 3 speed Sturmey Archer lever do the trick?
-

Any Sturmey shifter will work but you have to be careful how /where you mount it as where the cable exits the shifter may affect the fold.

Cool, makes sense. Cheers

I ride my fixed to work.
But I work in the Brompton factory.
Anyone seen the film Saturday Night and Sunday Morning? It's like that crossed with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Evans phoned me before I even knew my voucher had arrived to tell me they were ordering the Brompton to store for me... should be collected on Monday. I'm excited to have one again after selling the last one 3 years ago.
Ordered Turkish green though (still not sure it's a good idea)

It's here, it's here.
managed a quick ride across central london on it on friday to a pub but will be taking it out in anger for the first time properly on the commute tomorrow. Can't wait...

so far I've decided seatpost is too short, at full extension I need at least another inch or so to get a comfortable pedal stroke. The saddle is nowhere near as good as my charge spoon so reckon one of those will be on the cards soon. Also as convenient as flat pedals are I think I'll be chucking my dual sided spd pedals on so I can ride clipless when I use it to ride longer than a few miles.
Despite the poor riding position it's only made me slightly slower off the lights (quick to pull away but slow to get to normal riding speed) hopefully improving the fit will help a little.
Asides from nodders trying to squeeze up the side of vehicles in stationary traffic no one managed to pass me this morning though which felt pretty fun given I was on a clowns bike.

Hatbeard, have you tried adjusting the pentaclip (seatpost clamp) to gain more height.
You can normally move it up to the top of the post and/or re mount the rails in the upper setting. They leave the factory in the lowest position to help when packing. -

I'll give it a go.

ok so I've ridden a grand total of 9 miles tops on my brompton so far and already I've noticed something.
Everytime I slow down to wait rather than filtering down the left side of traffic because it's either blocked or there's a good chance the traffic ahead is going to turn left/hug the kerb in the next 30yds some cockmunch will try to overtake me through the single width space for a bike to the left of traffic. 4 times it's happened so far, twice the twats more or less took out my front wheel by cutting in through a non-existent gap. Is it something psychological when people see a brompton that they assume it'll be slow and they on a full bike are therefore faster and indeed superior or maybe because it's smaller they assume it's easier/more acceptable to push past?

Just picked up a free Brompton.
Lots of thing to be done to it though, front and rear brakes, seatpost, chain tensioner, seatclamp and possibly suspension block.
Hattly Beard, that sadly is quite normal for those who rode on the Brompton, much like how we see the I Become Death minicab; a menace.

Ed, you Lucky sod. How did you manage that?
-
• #447
It was a 90's Brompton that has been neglected, Charles Barraball got it, and gave it to me to build up.
Will see about buying it off him once I finish it, good thing I can get trade price on Brompton stuff otherwise would've been expensive (£19 for a Brompton seat clamp!)
drop bar on brompton? (I realised it won't fold).
-
• #448
Was googling for drop bar, and found this, bloody hell! (it got 18" wheel);

^^ That seatpost looks interesting. Has he coated/painted the standard one or is that something else? The chainring looks massive too. Does drops look silly. I just want some decent grips and bar-ends for mine. The ones I have been eyeing are :

Work well for me and don't interfere with the fold.
i have an s-type bag and a carradice city folder - both great but i run the carradice mostly as i always find things to fill it with
