As the basis of most of the fitness training that I did when I used to coach colts rugby, it quite good as most of the exercises don't require weights (keeps costs down, so you can buy better pads / tackle suits) and allows you to develop fitness and strength at the same time. There are also websites out that have good rugby specific fartlek programs, I just can't think of one off the top of my head right now and I'm too lazy to google it!
