bollocks it does. my mac is intermittently not talking to its keyboard and/or trackpad, and then on other days not talking its screen. pretty sure it's a loose wire, bit of solder missing or something like that.

Heard of countless cases of this! Dodgy cheap soldering sounds about right. Buit a custom pc for Minkfarmer 2yrs ago and it's never had a problem. Anyone got a mid-range 2yr old Mac with no issues for £500~?...

first thing I would check is the psu.

Thats whats baffling me.... The light in the psu rear switch is still twinkling away and its nowhere near the end of its life. Always kept it clear of dust and it's only been running at about 50% capacity.
Playing one night, turned off, went to sleep... wouldnt power up next morning ;(
Desperately need it up and running again for a very very important skype conversation this week
