You shouldn't get play as that is stopped by the clamping on the non drive side cup no? Having the cup further out (by a mm) on the drive side won't reduce play due to axle flex (the only reason I can think of) by any amount will it?
The only benefit I can see from not having axle showing is less gunk can get in close to the bearings, and with hope bearings that shouldn't be a worry.
Correct me if I'm wrong of course, and all advice is very useful etc etc.
Only just read this post. If it's an old frame (i.e. pre external BBs) and you're now using a external cup you may need to face the shell as externals BBs MUST have parallel faces.

Just finished my Bianchi lo-pro build. Still some parts missing from full Dura Ace 7400, but it's getting there. Shamal wheel-set will also be exchanged to rear disc and front DA, as soon as I get a decal idea for my beat up rear disc wheel.

do people not get mugged off for converting posh road frames any more?
No. The mugs were the ones paying over the odds for horizontal drop outs at the peak of the fixie madness.

The Halo Clickster has 72, double the amount of the White Industries one, at half the price.
Wasn't aware of the Halo. To me it is more about the sloppiness and general poor quality of the really cheap ones, i.e. knocking noises, play etc,. If the Halo is made anywhere near as well as the WI then looks like a good compromise (luckily the looks are not really important as it can't be seen much anyway)

That looks sweet!

Tester is joking.
No, just answering the question as it was, without making assumptions about the povertousness of the enquirer.

If you want more clicks, Trialtech have 108
http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/complete_freewheels/trialtech_sport_108/c16p11366.htmlHaven't ever had cause to buy a freewheel, but their fixed and SS sprockets are nicely made.

How dumb would it look/be, to have some brake mounts brazed onto this frame?

I think it could look very good. Kind of like this:
Managed to stitch the Merlin together today, mainly with bits from my (now departed) Singular. Posty turned up with the Seatpin this morning (massive thanks to westbrook cycles for paying £10 for saturday delivery at no extra cost) so i could finally go for a spin.
Love the feel of Ti, and even with the huge Loop bar cockpit, its light, responsive and not too twitchy.
Will stick the Dura Ace 7800 group on when I can afford some nice bars, thinking maybe Easton EC70 Aero's? not really sure, been used to old steel and Nitto Noodles. The TRP's are strong as hell, but may swap out for centre pull canti's down the line. Ti Stem, when i win the lottery.
Cheers for the frame Harry Major (excellent service) and cheers to folks for buying my spare parts to fund it
......and the sun's shining, Happy Days :)
