I had to restore my ipad from an old backup, then update... wouldn't work otherwise for some reason.

Stupid fucking iTunes. Pause. It means pause. Paused the download 200mb in, restarted, it's started from the beginning. Fucking Macs.

Just jumped from 40 minutes to 20 in about 5 minutes.
5 minutes later I have 2 minutes to go.

if you've already downloaded iOS 5, and made a backup -- it's easier to put your device in DFU mode and keep trying to finally get past the 3200 / internal error. This will skip taking a back up every time.

Should I use Little Umbrella or something?

Will IOS5 work on a 3GS?

It should on 3GS but not 3G.

I'm waiting for a couple of days before updating. The itunes servers are going to be insane, probably till after the weekend.

mine has done upgrade, factory reset, now restoring iphone contents

apparently apple servers are overloaded, so when it contacts apple to veryify the upgrade about 50% of requests fail

Failed upgrade has completely cunted my iphone4, won't even connect to itunes. I get 30 seconds of apple logo, then 30 of spinny thing before it restarts and does it all again.

Of course I won't be able to get anywhere near the apple store tomorrow for all the obsessed mourning pillocks queuing round the block for the 4s. Inspired timing, that is.

Download RecBoot and kick it out of recovery mode. Done.

Looks like it's in the process of being saved by DFU mode.
